CALAMITY CHRIS

It's reassuring to have your prejudices confirmed but it is not always comfortable. Having spent a few weeks rallying together to decry the 'nasty' tag being foisted upon us by the Tory press, Chris Huhne has blown the consensus out of the water today with his outburst on the BBC.

Putting aside the obvious surprise that one of our MPs could launch into such a public tirade against another, this clearly devastates the Huhne campaign.

Calamity Chris or Hopeless Huhne? A nation decides.

What Huhne did to Clegg was nasty. And the opposite of what we as a party stand for. I was disgusted - but not surprised. I for one will not feel able to stay in the party if Huhne is elected leader. It's down to character. And Huhne's behaviour is feeding into a narrative about him that people like Nick Cohen and Matthew Parris have been writing. If you look into Huhne's personal life and the way he treated his wife's first husband - it's not so surprising. Here's hoping Nick Clegg wins.

Hear hear... It was a disastrous day for us. It was the sort of dirty tricks I expect from Labour party thugs. I seem to recall that Huhne started it out in the Labour party and was part of the SDP influx. Maybe that's where he learned his manners...
