Emily Maitlis on Newsnight said that the fact that the LDs got 25% of the vote on May 1st, beating Labour into third place, meant that we are 'treading water'.
The only word which seems appropriate is cobblers.

Indeed. And then, just when you think the cobblers can't get any worse, Newsnight Review comes on! The Tories couldn't put a shadow minister up agin Ruth Kelly (who looked like she'd been at the cooking sherry, and gurned strangely while admitting her party was in the shit) yet Michael Gove managed to make it onto Newsnight Review to talk about films and stuff.
The Tories are now exactly where New Labour wre in opposition: careful comments and no debate.
It almost makes you weep that the good voters can't see through it.
